WLF relies heavily on our volunteers to make a city-wide impact. From the dedicated mentors and
tutors who spend one-on-one time with program participants, to the writers and graphic designers who
created this website. There are so many ways you can get involved!
Our Top Volunteer Needs
Become a MENTOR today!
Best Practice Teams
Best practice teams will be comprised of two-six volunteers who work together to develop best
practice/innovation (BPI) recommendation in a specific field of need, relative to Wilmington. Teams will
work through a process which includes:
- Identifying needs, outages, and insights
- Researching local and national best practices and models
- Conducting ideation sessions
- Evaluating ideas
- Creating a strategic recommendation for adoption into current and/or proposed WLF initiatives.
Innovation Directors
Manage team of two to six volunteers. Lead the strategic thinking, recommendation and guide
decisions on research, timing, and involvement from various stakeholders.
Research Analysts
Conduct online research, review secondary research sources and evaluate data in order to uncover
insights and/or measure results.
Current Projects
BPI – Mentoring Team: Find and create best options to incorporate into various adult mentoring
programs with a focus on improving prison re-entry and employment mentoring programs
BPI – Case Management Team: Find and create best practices options for integrating case management
at WLF. Will require multiple discipline approach that includes counseling, IT, and coordination between
service providers
BPI – Recreation Experience & Connection Team: Find and create best practices that maximize people
ability to have meaningful connections within fun, recreational experiences.
Other BPI teams will be formed around marriage enrichment, health care and senior care.
Creative Communications Team
Designers – People who are gifted at bringing ideas to life in the compelling design of our collateral,
web, advertising materials, and basic brand id pieces for existing and new WLF brands. Includes one
lead designer.
Web Site Administrator – Help manage content and update current sites. Work with various
stakeholders to receive requests and facilitate scheduling of updates with web team.
Writers – People who love the written and spoken word and helping us find the right voice for our
brands in all collateral, web, advertising, newsletter, video scripts, voice overs, etc. for existing and new
WLF brands. Includes one lead writer.
Event Team – Event volunteers needed for the WLF Mentor appreciation, Banquets, and silent/live
auctions
Mentoring – Become a mentor or tutor with current WLF Amachi Mentoring project. Our mentors are
supported with training and guidance from our staff and are asked to make a minimal time commitment
to provide the inspiration, encouragement, and guidance that our young people need to achieve their
personal, academic and career goals.
Churches – WLF thrives on the support of local churches and their volunteers. Christ-followers in
Wilmington represent the greatest resource for positive change in our city. If you are a part of a church

Businesses – From assisting in developing social service enterprises to corporate recruiting forvolunteers and giving back to the community, businesses can play a significant role in changing our city.

Other opportunities to engage – WLF relies on the financial support of socially responsible individuals,
corporations, foundations and agencies. By making a tax-deductible donation, you will help create a
brighter future for our young people.
Donor – donor opportunities include the standard giving to programs such as one-time gifts, annual
gifts (monthly, quarterly, or semi-annual disbursements), capacity building gifts, and restricted gifts
(endowment and programmatic)
Board Team – These teams will be made up of board and non-board members. These board support
teams include individuals who have an expressed passion/gift for the focus of a particular team
(i.e., student support, partnerships, etc) and will support the work of the organization and make
recommendation for current and future activities ( community-based and programmatic). These teams
will not have governance responsibilities, but will interface with the board of directors around annual
goals/work plans. Board teams will meet at regular intervals to be determined by the team. Verbal and
written updates will be provided to the board of Directors.
Board Member – The members of the board of directors will have governance and fiduciary
responsibilities for the organization. The areas of emphasis are financial management, evaluation of
chief executive(s), and leadership development. The board of directors will meet at regular intervals
according to an established calendar.
Volunteer – friends of the organization can volunteer in community based programming and/or events.

Come and See Opportunities – these are planned opportunities and/or scheduled events that
potential friends of the agency/funders/volunteers can participate in to get a sense of the work of the
organization. Examples include neighborhood vision opportunities hosted by WLF and networking
meetings ( a component of the capacity building initiative)
Trainings – WLF host various training opportunities whether theologically based (the roundtable) or
otherwise
Intercession – opportunities for individual and friends of the organization to pray for the city and the
work of the organization include a board support team that prays regularly for WLF, weekly prayer with
neighborhood/collaborating organizations, and monthly potluck for fellowship.
